Who's Guarding the Guardians?

President Bush -- himself at the center of much criticism over the handling of Katrina response -- says he will lead the investigation of what's gone wrong himself.

The President announced he's sending Vice President Dick Cheney -- just returned from vacation in Wyoming -- to the Gulf Coast to look into the red tape tangling response efforts.

"What I intend to do is lead an investigation to find out what went right and what went wrong. We still live in an unsettled world. We want to make sure we can respond properly if there is a WMD attack or another major storm." -- President Bush, quoted in USA Today

The President would not comment when asked if anyone on his disaster response team should be replaced. On Friday, he greeted FEMA Director Mike Brown with, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." (USAToday)
