FEMA Cruises to Another Controversy

FEMA is spending $1,275 per person, per week to house Katrina evacuees on the Carnival cruise ship Ecstasy (left). FEMA pressed the Military Sealift Command to get them 10,000 berths within 24 hours. The hastily drafted contract sent $236 million of your tax dollars to Carnival Cruise Lines.

It's a sweet deal for the cruise line. The ship is moored to a dock in New Orleans for six-months. They're making a ton of money at $1,275 a week -- since it only costs $599 per person for a seven-day cruise out of Galveston around the Western Caribbean. And that would include entertainment and making the ship move. (NBC)
