Shortage of Hurricane Names

Hurricane and tropical storm names are already up to Ophelia -- and the hurricane season doesn't end until November 30. Already, the the number of storms and number of tropical storms that become hurricanes have passed the average for a whole year. And we're only about half way through the season.

The most hurricanes in the Atlantic was 12 back in 1969 -- there have been six so far this year.

With the letters Q, U, X, Y, and Z not used for storm names, "Wilma" will be the last on the list. After that, Greek letters starting with "Alpha" will be used to name storms.

The National Hurricane Center has never run out of names since starting the practice in 1953. (CNN)
