Choosing to Heat or Eat

The Bush administation has shot down requests from five states that worry their poor may have to choose between food or fuel this winter.

New York, Maine, Kansas, Virginia, and South Carolina all sought bigger monthly food stamp allotments. They based their requests on what they figure poor families will have to pay for heating costs. They figure that'll be $8 to $30 a month. (USAToday)
