Feel Safer Yet, Part Umpteen

The former 9/11 Commission -- which has hung around to see if its reccomendations are taken seriously -- give Washington a failing grade on preventing future terror attacks.

The Commission releases its report card on Washington's terrorism preparedness today.

"There are more F's, unfortunately, than there are A's." -- former Rep Lee Hamilton (D-IN) quoted on Meet the Press
The panel has found that four years after 9/11 and nearly a year and a half after their reccomendations:

Police & fire first responders still have no coordinated communications systems Homeland Security money is still distributed based on politics rather than risk No unified command structure with clear lines of authority in the event of a terrorist attack

Many of the deficiencies were exposed during the response to Hurricane Katrina.

Some members of the 9/11 Commission now say the US is no more safe -- or even less safe -- than on September 11, 2001. (USAToday)
