Former Sen William Proxmire (D-WI) died in Sykesville, Maryland Thursday morning. He was 90.
Sen Proxmire served from 1957 - 89 and was known for his "Golden Fleece" awards, citing government waste, fraud, and abuse. The Washington Post reports that the "Golden Fleece" went to studies into the effects of booze on fish, why prisoners like to escape from jail, and the figures of airline stewardesses. (WashPost)
