Even if you serve only a single, two-year term in Congress -- you have life time privileges to visit Congress members' private gyms, dining halls, even the floor of Congress itself.
That's a powerful tool -- if you become a lobbyist.
The New York Times reports that since 1998, half of the 36 Senators who've retired or been fired by voters have hung around DC to register as lobbyists. And 2 out of 5 of the 162 former Representatives are lobbyists. (NYT)
