Parking Federal Money in Omaha

The Omaha World Herald can't quite figure out the justification for federal dollars building a local parking garage. Sen Ben Nelson's (D-NE) put out a news release bragging about the new garage at Creighton University.

His aides told the paper the parking garage will:

• Revitalize the neighborhood at 24th & Burt Streets
• Improve traffic safety at the University
• Help drivers get to locations nearby
• Compensate the University for lost parking in recent street work

But the paper's editorial staff says none of that explains why the "federal" government should spend millions on a "local" project. The paper says "no such logic exists."

Logic? We're talking about Congress here. (World-Herald)
