Senator Jon Corzine (D-NJ) -- now running for New Jersey Governor -- loaned his ex-girlfriend $470,000 three years ago. He later forgave the debt.
Problem is -- she was head of the state's biggest labor union.
He made the loan months after he and Carla Katz stopped dating -- but just as he kicked off his campaign for Governor
Ms Katz heads the Communications Workers of America Local 1034. Her union represents 9,000 state government workers. That could put Sen Corzine and Ms Katz on opposite sides in state bargining. And the loan turned gift could be a problem then.
And it gives his opponents ammunition -- talk about being "in bed with the unions." (CNN) [Photo Credit: US Congress]
