Robert Robb in the Arizona Republic asks why so many seemingly "local" projects are buried away in the federal highway bill:
"Why, pray tell, is it a federal responsibility to build a bicycle-pedestrian bridge at McDowell Road and 35th Avenue in Phoenix, or a footbridge to connect trails across the western bank of Tempe Town Lake?"
He also raises the point of why the federal government should provide incentives in the form of tax breaks for the energy industry -- they got more than $14 billion in the energy bill. Mr Robb figures that with $700 billion spent on energy every year -- the industry should have plenty of incentives to stay in business. (Arizona Republic)
