A handful of Democrats cooked up a tax they thought Republicans would go along with: A 25% tax on online porn.
So far, not a single Republican has signed on to Rep Blanch Lincoln's (D-AR) sin tax plan.
In fact, anti-porn crusaders like the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families oppose the tax. They've been lobbying Republicans to oppose taxes on the porn industry.
Most anti-tax arguments are that taxes strangle business, cut jobs, discourage growth of the industry. But the Coalition argues that the naked truth is that the tax would only make Uncle Sam dependent on money from porn -- and that would keep Washington from regulating the industry. (Wired)
