BattlingTerrorism with Fireworks

The huge crowd on the National Mall for the July 4th fireworks also helped Washington how to figure out how to evacuate the nation's capital in the event of a terrorist attack. DC's transportation departement had the goal of getting tens of thousands of people into their cars, out of the city, and into the Virginia suburbs in 45 minutes. It took a little longer. Monday night's test was the largest evacuation drill Washington's had since 9/11. (NYT) [Photo Credit: US Navy]
