The President's Intel Advisor, China, and a Lobbying Deal

The state-run Chinese oil company CNOOC (prounced SEE-nook) is trying to buy US oil company Unocal. To help get that deal past Congress, China and CNOOK needed a lobbyist. They hired the Akin Gump law firm to lobby for them.

President Bush's top, independent intelligence adviser -- James C. Langdon -- works for the firm and met with CNOOC leaders back in February. His firm is just now getting around to telling us about that.

Mr Langdon chairs the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. This is a group given top level security clearances. They create reports for the President that aren't available to Congress. (WashPost)
