The Senate has cut $35 billion in spending by slashing federal spending on prescription drugs, agriculture supports, and student loans.
The plan also opens Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling -- a plan that promises to save consumers a penny a gallon in gas prices -- in 2025.
While the elderly, farmers, and students will have to tighten their belt, Senators can breath easier about their pet projects. The "bridge to nowhere" and other pork barrel projects adding up to $24 billion in the highway bill passed in August were not touched. (WashPost)
