The Arkansas Jet Set

Gov Mike Huckabee (R-AR) is taking some flak for his use of a State Police airplane. The Arkansas Times counts 30 trips outside Arkansas on the plane just this year.

"Many of the trips took Huckabee to meetings and events that related to his position as chairman of the National Governors Association. Others have a more tenuous connection to his official duties."

Among the trips -- one with wife Janet to take part in the Washington, DC Marine Corp Marathon last weekend. (The Hotline)

I am not sure you know much about the Arkansas Times if you use them as a source. They are a free weekly gossip rag that has a deep-seeded hatred towards Huckabee. In other words, them printing something bad about Huckabee is not necessarily based on truth or fact.

Actually, the Arkansas Times was a monthly magizine (along the lines of Texas Monthly) until the Arkansas Gazette folded. That paper (the oldest west of the Mississippi) was one of the nation's most respected (winning two pulitizer prizes for it's coverage of the 1957 Little Rock crisis). When the Gazette folded, many of the top writers went over to the Times to refound it in it's current form. The masthead at their website still lists many of Arkansas's best known journalists on their staff.

The anonymous post directly above this one was obviously written by an Arkansas Times staffer. The Arkansas Times may have once been a respectable publication, but that was many, many years ago. Today it is a free tabloid that is not even on the Governor's invite list for press conferences and makes its living of off running "special sections" and duping businesses featured in the "special section" to buy advertising in it. They also have a nasty habit of using the National Enquirer as a source.

Sad.
