Defraud Medicare or operate without a proper license?
Not to worry. You can go right back into business billing taxpayers.
The Government Accountability Office has identified 1,038 equipment suppliers kicked out of Medicare back in 2003. But less than a year later, 192 of them were back to billing Medicare. The average suspension was a mere three months.
The GAO suggests that companies caught cheating -- should have to sit out longer suspensions before going after taxpayer dollars again.
The GAO report says one company that was kicked out came back after three months and overbilled taxpayers $200,000 right off the bat. (WashPost)
