The Homeland Security Department's Inspector General reports the agency misspent $18.5 million in a recent six month period. The probe also caught 146 workers and grant recipients breaking the law who've since been arrested.
Among things the IG found:
- $500,000 for decorative art, plants, kitchen appliances, and fitness equipment
- Sexual abuse of transgender detainees at a San Pedro, California facility
- A Customs official accepting bribes to get illegal aliens into the country
