Wow, It is Who You Know

Ambassadorial posts in London and Rome have gone to a pair of the President's wealthy friends -- who just happened to raise a ton of money for his re-election campaign.

Robert Tuttle will move from his digs in Beverly Hills to London if confirmed as the new Ambassador to Britain. Ronald Spogli is nominated as Ambassador to Italy. Both were "Pioneers" in the Bush campaign -- meaning they raised $100,000 or more for the President's re-election. (AP via Yahoo!)

So what! Who was he suppose to assign to these posts, someone from moveon.org?

Since these are two of our biggest allies in both the War on Terror and the Iraq War, it would have been nice to appoint expert diplomats rather than cronies.

I believe Joseph Kennedy held one of those posts for exactly the same reason. When a dog bites a man, it's not news.

And it was Joe Kennedy's lack of diplomatic experience that caused major political problems between the US and Britain before WWII, and ended Joe Kennedy's political career.

He's one of the prime examples always held up as to why cronies shouldn't be appointed to key diplomatic posts.

This isn't a dog biting man story, this is a dog biting the American people in the butt (again, thank you, W.) story!
