Making Money on the Homefront

Rep Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-CA) sold his house back in 2003 to a defense contractor. Nine months later, the contractor sold the house for a $700,000 loss. Suspicious minds argue that kind of thing suggests the contractor used the house sale to slip Rep Cunningham a bunch of money.

Rep Cunningham was pulling for contractor Mitchell Wade and his company -- MZM Inc to land some lucrative Pentagon contracts at the time.

Oddly, right after Rep Cunningham got the windfall on the sale of his house -- MZM, Inc came sailing out of the economic doldrums landing defense and intel contracts worth tens of millions of taxpayer dollars.

Rep Cunningham told the San Diego Union-Tribune he's clean as a whistle:

"My whole life I've lived above board. I've never even smoked a marijuana cigarette. I don't cheat."

When a politician talks like that -- it makes you wonder if he unloaded any Arizona swampland with that house.
Rep Cunningham turned around and bought a new $2.5 million dollar home after unloading his old one with the defense contractor. (North County Times)
