Dangers with the Ranges

GAO
A Congressional investigation warns that America's military training ranges are falling apart. That means troops aren't getting the kind of training they need -- and that could put their lives in danger.

The Government Accountability Office looked at 8 of the military's 70 major ranges themselve. Then analyzed the military's own reports on the others.

At Fort Hood, Texas, the GAO found an urban warfare training site designed for the Cold War era -- mimicking eastern European conditions instead of those in current hot spots like Afghanistan and Iraq.

The also found a glitch at the Navy's Southern California Offshore Range making the whole site nearly useless for it's job of training submarine crews. (BaltSun)
