Sen Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is giving his wife a $14.2 million Valentine -- and you're getting to pay for it.
Sen McConnell tucked the federal money into a spending bill to build a new library wing at his alma mater -- the University of Louisville.
Things like this are usually paid for with donations or other private fundraising. Not so here. Sen McConnell got all the money from federal taxpayers.
Not only that -- but his bill ordered that the wing be named after his wife -- Labor Secretary Elaine Chao. It opens February 20th -- something of a belated Valentine.
Isn't that sweet? (WashPost/Al Kamen's In the Loop Column)
