Abramoff Scandal Hits State Race

In a sign of the widening impact of the Jack Abramoff scandal, 21 Republican state lawmakers in Georgia are asking Ralph Reed (right) to withdraw from the lieutenant governor's race. They say his candidacy could threaten Republican control of the Governor's Office. Mr Reed had connections with Mr Abramoff's lobbying.

Sen Conrad Burns (R-MT) kicked off his campaign with TV ads denying his Abramoff connections just two weeks ago. The scandal is playing early and often in the 2006 campaign. (AJC via Hotline on Call)
