Bird Flu Coughs Up Cash for Cabinet Member

Panicked about the bird flu? Not if your Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

He stands to make a mint off the panic.

That's because he's invested a ton of money in California biotech company Gilead Sciences. They invented Tamiflu -- the most sought after flu cure in the world right now.

Before he was Secretary of Defense, Mr Rumsfeld was the company's chairman. His financial disclosure forms show the Secretary still owns somewhere between $5 million and $25 million in Gilead stock. Stock prices for the company have shot up from $35 to $47 over the bird flu worries. That means the Secretary is a million dollars richer from the fear driving the market.

Maybe that's what President Bush really meant when he said he wanted the military to have a bigger role in battling bird flu. (CNN)
