The Coast Guard's ships are aging and breaking down. Many are 50 years old. Overall, the Coast Guard fleet is one of the oldest in the world. Pakistan and Algeria younger ships on average.
That's making it hard for the Coast Guard to do it's post-9/11 mission of protecting our ships, harbors, and thousands of miles of coastline safe from terrorists. (USAToday)
