The Bush administration wants to dodge a trade war with Brazil. So the White House is asking Congress to kill a subsidy program for cotton.
There's about $264 million in so-called "Step 2" subsidies the White House wants killed. If Congress doesn't, Brazil could slap penalties on US DVDs, technology, and pharmaceuticals.
Look for a lobbying battle between Hollywood, Silicon Valley, & Big Pharma on one side and the cotton industry on the other. (LAT)
