POLITICS -- All We Have to Fear is the Next 63 Days

Swift Turn. Rear Adm. William L. Schachte Jr claims he avoided talking to the media for months about John Kerry’s service record. Last week, he came down on the side of the anti-Kerry crew of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth -- challenging whether Kerry deserved one of his three Purple Hearts. Now it comes out that Schachte not only is a long time Bush contributor, but also a lobbyist who’s client recently won a $40 million dollar federal contract from the federal government. The Kerry camp says $40 million can do a lot to a man’s memory. (WashPost)

What Ethical Problem? Journalists covering the Republican National Convention are seeing New York City’s softer side -- free of charge. The city lined up free services and created a place called “The Spa” to pamper journalists with massages, manicures, and the like. The idea is the reporters will provide some nice comments -- translating into free advertising for the city. (WashPost)
