POLITICS – All We Have to Fear is the Next 80 Days.

The Bipartisan Campaign to Weaken Campaign Finance Laws. A lawyer tag team is testing obscure parts of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law. (NYT)

New Oil, Same Old Snakes. The McCain-Feingold campaign finance law has changed a lot of definitions of campaigns. The folks at washingtonpost.com analyze the shades of gray.

American Opinion Flips… The latest Gallup Poll shows that President Bush’s approval rating has slipped over the halfway point to 51%. No president who at or above 50% at this point in a campaign has lost. (USA Today)

Then Flops. But the economy ranks as the leading issue for election. And another poll – from the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press – shows most Americans give the President’s economic policies low marks. Two-thirds rank the economy as "only fair" or "poor" and 55% say jobs are hard to find where they live.

Malibu Barbie’s Dream White House. Toy maker Mattel is running Barbie (the doll) for President. Mattel tells us this is supposed to teach young girls something important. Perhaps it’s what Lucianne Goldberg told People magazine in 1992: "When you're tall, thin, blond and have big boobs, you can have any job you want." (CNN)
