Politics of Oil

A close relationship between Washington and big business appears to undermine states' rights. The Center for Public Integrity reviewed letters, e-mails, and handwritten notes it got through a Freedom of Information Act request. Their investigation covered scores of private meetings between big oil and the Federal Energy Regulatory Committee.

The investigation shows what CPI refers to as an "extremely close relationship" between the agency and the industry it regulates.

The end result is the FERC aggressively undermining state and local authority over the placement of proposed liquefied natural gas facilities. (CPI)
