A Case Where Health Care SAVES Money

A new program matches first-time single, poor mothers with help from trained nurses. The nurses are there through the pregnancy up until the baby's second birthday. A long term study of the program shows the kids do better for years afterwards -- and it saves taxpayers on average $17,000 per family. The savings come from fewer expenses for welfare, health care, and even court costs. (NPR -Audio)
