A former top aide to President Bush has been arrested on theft charges in Maryland.
Claude Allen (far right in the picture with President Bush) had served as deputy secreary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Democrats had blocked White House plans in 2003 when President Bush announced plans to appoint him to the federal appeals court in Richmond.
Mr Allen was arrested for a shoplifting charge from January 2. He'd resigned from the administration just last month. (NYT)

I think power gets to people's heads. They begin to feel above the law. Are all government officials corrupt?
