
Gov Richards is best known nationally for her Democratic Convention speech in 1988 where she said of the then Vice President and Republican Presidential nominee: "Poor George [H.W. Bush], he can't help it...He was born with a silver foot in his mouth."
She's a recovering alcoholic who smoked heavily for 20 years -- giving up both alcohol and tobacco in 1980.
She served as Texas' 45th Governor until losing to George W. Bush in 1994. (AP Video/Houston Chronicle)
