Hunger in the Breadbasket
The USDA says after a seven-year decline, the number of Americans on food stamps has shot up 39 percent since 2000. What's more, the Department figures 36.3 million Americans -- more than 1-in-10 -- are at risk of hunger. That's the highest figure the USDA has recorded since it started keeping records on hunger. The numbers are even worse in certain places -- like Kansas, smackdab in the middle of America's breadbasket. (Lawrence Journal-World -- thanks to Al's Morning Meeting)
