A quarterly report to Congress shows at least 232 civilian employees of private contractors have died working on US government projects in Iraq. Labor Department figures show US contractor deaths rose 93% during the fourth quarter of 2004. They averaged 22 a week for the quarter ending January 5. And workers comp claims for contractors missing more than four days of work due to injuries rose to a total of 728 claims.
