Shirley Chisholm: 1924 - 2005

The first black woman elected to Congress has died. Shirley Chisolm was elected to Congress from New York in 1968 until 1983. A critic of the Vietnam War and supporter of minority causes she once said of her legacy, "I'd like them to say that Shirley Chisholm had guts. That's how I'd like to be remembered." (Miami Herald)
