President Bush has named White House Counsel Harriet Miers (right) to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court.Ms Miers has served a single, two-year term on the Dallas City Council, as president of a law firm, and on Governor George W Bush's 1994 transition team.
She has never served as a judge. (WashPost)
