I've been telling you for some time that the days of
floating checks are over -- voided by the "Check 21 Law." In short, it means that money flows from your account the instant your check is cased or deposited. On the flip side, checks you deposit don't always wind up in your account instantly. The one-sided delay means you could wind up with overdraft charges and your bank gets to make money on the money they hold up before it reaches your account.
