Can’t Vouch for That. Citing better offerings in public schools and the logistical nightmare of crossing the city in rush hour, lots of students who qualified for school vouchers in Washington, DC are turning them down. The vouchers mean up to $7,500 in aid to attend private schools. But roughly one-quarter of the students who went through the process to get the vouchers have backed out of the program now that school’s started. (WashPost)
End the Cards. Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has dropped its Medicare sponsored discount drug card program leaving 536,000 low-income seniors with no access to discounted medicines. The discount card program was part of the $500 billion Medicare overhaul Congress passed last year. (NYT)
