Both President Bush and Senator Kerry are in the "aw-shucks-he's-so-much-better-at-it-than-me" phase of a Presidential campaign. It's the only time when the candidates say something good about their opponents. It is, of course, the week leading up to the first debate. And each candidate says the other is better at debating. The idea is to diminish expectations so that even if you do a lousy job, you look better than you promised.
