Rejecting the Slam Dunk

Then-CIA Director George Tenent called the likelihood of Saddam possessing WMD's "a slam dunk" on the eve of the invasion. The CIA has blown a whistle on that play -- two years later. The CIA -- convinced that Iraq posed an imminent chemical weapons threat on the eve of the Iraq War -- has issued a correction. The spy shop has issued a classified report concluding Saddam abandoned his chemical weapons programs in 1991. It's the first time the CIA has disavowed his pre-war notions. But Mr Tenent will apparently get to keep his Medal of Freedom. (LAT)

I do just wonder what exactly brought on that CIA report and admission of their being wrong. Wonder if it's the result of Porter Goss having taken over. Wonder if this is a CYA in anticipation of something worse coming in their shop.
